San Francisco Community Radio evolved from the aftermath of the (still unapproved) sale of KUSF 90.3 back in January, 2011. Volunteers from the station quickly mobilized to denounce the deal. One act of defiance was to reignite San Francisco’s lost voice by building an online entity replicating the old station’s format and calling it KUSF in Exile. Today “Exile” has grown into a 501 c3 non profit with the new name, San Francisco Community Radio (SFCR). The station is still volunteer based and broadcasts from The Lightrail Studios in San Francisco 24 hours a day. The desire of SFCR members is to retain its online visibility while also seeking to reestablish itself on a terrestrial signal.
