Sponsor Spotlight! San Jalisco

The story of SanJalisco begins with Anita and Vicente Padilla who emigrated from the Mexican state of Jalisco in the 1940s and settled in the Mission District of San Francisco.  Together with their nine children, the Padillas founded two different restaurants, also in the Mission District.  They operated these establishments from the 1950s through the 1970s, at which point Dolores “Josie” Padilla Reyes, one of their nine children and current owner of SanJalisco, took over in the mid 1970s.Since 1988 Josie, the Reyes family, along with extended family, have worked hard to establish SanJalisco, then known as Los Jarritos, at its current location of 20th Street and South Van Ness Avenue.  To pay tribute to their Jalisco heritage vividly reflected in many of the dishes served in the restaurant, the family decided to change the name of the restaurant to SanJalisco in 2010.For several decades SanJalisco has been a cornerstone of the Mission District and is proud to serve the community and be a Mexican comfort food favorite.  We are a family-run restaurant with knowledgeable and attentive staff that is dedicated to providing a memorable dining experience for both tourists and locals alike.  Our restaurant is ideal for large parties or families; we offer take-out and specialize in catering events.  Whether it’s your first visit to SanJalisco or your one-hundredth, our family extends the warmest welcome and sincerely hopes you will enjoy your dining experience with us.
